Tabiya Partners with SwahiliPot for Hackathon at Pwani Innovation Week 2024
Tabiya is excited to partner with Swahilipot to host a hackathon during this year’s Pwani Innovation Week, taking place from October 14th to 18th, 2024, at Swahilipot Hub in Mombasa, Kenya. This collaboration will bring together developers, innovators, and change makers to explore innovative solutions aimed at addressing critical challenges in youth employment and community development.
SwahilipotHub Foundation was founded in 2016 with a vision to decentralize Kenya's innovation ecosystem, ensuring that technological opportunities are not confined to Nairobi. Over the years, Swahilipot has grown from a community-based organization into a non-profit foundation, hosting events like Pwani Innovation Week and expanding its reach to empower youth and support community development through technology and the arts.
The hackathon will focus on leveraging Tabiya’s open-source solutions that enhance economic opportunities for young people, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. Participants will be challenged to explore how Tabiya’s tools—such as our inclusive livelihoods taxonomy—can be applied creatively to connect young people to economic opportunities and improve livelihoods.
We are excited to see how innovators at the event will develop new ways to create more inclusive labor markets, with a focus on skills-based pathways to employment, especially for those in informal sectors.
Prizes will be awarded for the most innovative and impactful solutions, with the first-place winner receiving $1,500 and an opportunity to collaborate with Tabiya on further development of their solution. This event highlights Tabiya’s ongoing commitment to fostering open-source solutions that empower youth and communities globally.
We look forward to sharing updates from the hackathon and showcasing the innovative projects that emerge from this collaboration!
